Summer Internship

Make the most of your summer!

Want to spend the summer with incredible kids, working alongside incredible staff, having meaningful experiences and growing your leadership skills? Look no further than an internship with Village Youth Ministry.

What are the job requirements?

Interns must be at least in their sophomore year of college and have a clean driving record, be comfortable with hands-on, physical activities and games, and also be completely awesome (no exceptions). Two years of experience working with youth, preferably in a youth ministry setting, are preferred but not required.

What will the schedule be like?

This year’s summer internship will be May 31, 2022 through August 1, 2022 (start and end dates may be flexible if necessary). The internship will average 30-40 hours a week, but hours will vary depending on the specific events we have planned for that week. Interns will take compensation time off after trips, where their total working time will be more than the usual hours.

Interns will spend time during weekdays helping to plan and coordinate summer events. In the evenings, they will help host summer programs for students. Typically, there is programming Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights. Thursday is an office work day, and Friday and Saturday are usually days off.

What if I’m not from Kansas City?

We love hosting interns from out of town—they always bring new energy and fresh perspective to our summer programming. If you’re from out of town, a member of Village Presbyterian Church will provide accommodations at a host home free of charge while you’re working with us.

On that note, while having your own transportation is certainly helpful and encouraged, it is not required, so don’t worry if you need to fly into KC or don’t have a car. We’ll make sure you get everywhere you need to be.

Is this a paid internship?

Compensation is $600/week for up to 10 weeks of work.

What is the application process?

Applicants will email the following items to youth@villagepres.org:

  • One-page typed résumé

  • Statement of faith or letter describing your faith journey

  • Letter of recommendation

From there, we’ll contact you to conduct a video or phone interview. You must have all three required documents to be considered.

Will we go on the summer trips?

Interns will each go on several trips during the summer. Our 2024 summer trips include the Montreat Conference (North Carolina), the Middle School Mission Trip (Omaha), and the Boundary Waters Canoe Trip. We will assign interns to trips at our discretion as needed, but we will definitely take your preferences into account as to which trips you would prefer. Sometimes, though, we simply need more hands on deck on one trip versus another.

Can I still apply if I was an intern in a previous year?

Of course! We’d love to see you again.
