We couldn’t do youth ministry without the support of amazing volunteers! With many programs going on throughout the year, we have lots of opportunities for you to help!

Weekly Volunteer Youth Group Leader

In addition to our staff, we have several adult volunteers who attend either MS or HS youth group each week. High schoolers (sophomore year and up) are also eligible to be leaders at middle school youth group. Typically this commitment is for one school year, but occasionally leaders roll on or off at the semester.

Help Out at Lofternoons

This after-school program has historically been very popular, so we appreciate having additional adults (and high schoolers) simply to have eyes around the room and be able to interact and get to know students. This is a great opportunity for someone who is interested in helping out every once in a while, but isn't able to commit weekly.

Lead a Confirmation Small Group

Each Confirmation class (end of January through end of April) is taught by one of our youth directors or another departmental director or pastor. But, the class is broken into small discussion groups led by adults like you! Group leaders maintain the same group each class. It’s always a rewarding experience helping facilitate students growing in their faith and a great opportunity for adults to learn as well.

Can I still volunteer if my child isn’t involved?

Yes! We’d love to have your help either way.

Do I have to be a member of Village Church to volunteer?

No, but we do ask that you be comfortable discussing faith-based topics and supportive (both verbally and behaviorally!) of the messages the group leaders are relaying to the students through programming, worship music sets, and other media.

How old do I have to be to volunteer?

Volunteers for high school events and trips should be at least 18 and out of high school. Volunteers for middle school should be adults over 18, but we do allow high schoolers to volunteers, on a case-by-case basis, if they are sophomores or above.

Go on a trip!

We are always in need of additional adults to chaperone our youth trips. Responsibilities generally include ensuring safety of students, assisting our staff directors, leading small groups, sometimes driving, and sometimes navigating air travel.

Do chaperones pay to go on trips?

Depends on the trip. The Dominican Republic mission trip is full price. The Ski Trip is half the student price if the adult is planning to ski (please note that both students and parents must be responsible for renting their own skiing or snowboarding gear, so please factor in those costs when making trip plans). However, chaperones that volunteer for the ski trip but don’t plan on skiing will receive a $150 stipend (and if your child is going on the same trip, you have the option to apply that credit to the cost of their trip). For our summer trips (Boundary Waters, Float Trip, Middle School Mission Trip, Village Voices Annual Tour, & Montreat), chaperones always go for free. Some out-of-pocket expenses you may incur while on the trip may be reimbursed at the end of the trip—talk to your trip leaders for details on how to go about getting reimbursements.

  • Dominican Republic Mission Trip: $1,200 (full price)

  • Ski Trip (Skiing): $350 (half-price)

  • Ski Trip (Not Skiing): Receive a $150 stipend

  • All Summer Trips: FREE

Am I guaranteed to go on the trip if I sign up?

When it comes to planning trips, a whole host of factors come into play. We have a limited number of spots available for chaperones on trips, and some of those need to be a specific gender (for instance, we might need another adult male for a boys’ cabin, but have no more room for female chaperones). So if you’ve volunteered but we aren’t able to accommodate that on a certain trip, don’t worry—it’s not personal! We would still love to have your help on a future trip.
